Authors can Persuade, like advertising; Inform, like the news; and Entertain like jokes. The acronym is 'PIE', so today we made pies!
First we formed into groups of three. One person's job was to Persuade...they had to come up with persuasive words, make it in pastry and put it on the top of the pie. The second person's job was to Inform...they had to write some information like the names of the people in their group, the ingredients of the pie.on baking paper, line the pie plate and fill it with apple. The third person's job was to Entertain....they had to create an entertaining 'plate' to present the pie, with fun pictures, jokes and stories.
Then when they were all complete, we put them in the oven.....
Then the persuade, inform, entertain parts were altogether....until.....they were eaten!
So making pies will help us to remember that authors write for different purposes....Persuade, like advertising; Inform, like the news; and Entertain like jokes....and sometimes mixtures of the three!
